Valparaiso University’s MS in Health Management and Policy Prepares Grads for In-Demand Careers in Health Informatics

U.S. News & World Report-ranked Valparaiso University has launched a cutting-edge Master of Science in Health Management and Policy – Health Informatics degree program to help professionals prepare for in-demand careers.

The rise of digital technology, along with federal legislation mandating greater use of electronic health records (EHR), is fueling career opportunities for skilled professionals in the field of health informatics. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 23 percent job growth through 2022 for the category of workers that includes health information managers.

Valparaiso University’s MS-HMP: Health Informatics program is available 100% online and is designed for professionals seeking to enhance their career possibilities. Graduates will be prepared to manage EHR departments and for positions such as Health Informatics Specialist, Clinical Data Analyst and Health Information System Application Designer.

“According to the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), the demand for trained health informatics professionals in coming years will surge to meet increased patient data management needs,” said Valparaiso University Professor Martin Ignatovski.

The 100% online MS-HMP program consists of 36 graduate credit hours, including three specialized Health Informatics courses: Advanced Statistics, Health Informatics and Data Mining. In those classes, students will learn how to analyze data and manage patient records, as well as explore issues such as variance and correlation.

With the flexibility and convenience of 24/7 access, the online graduate degree program can be completed in as few as 24 months. In addition to Health Informatics, students can choose from three other specialties: Strategic Decision Making, Gerontology or Forensic Health.

The video-based e-learning platform is powered by University Alliance, with streaming and downloadable lectures, professor-led interactive discussion boards and online chat rooms.

Applications are due by April 23 for the eight-week Summer I, 2014 session, which begins May 5. To begin the enrollment process for Valpo’s MS-HMP program, visit www.ValpoOnline.com or call 855-582-8047.
