The University of Scranton Announces Bisk Foundation Teacher Education Scholarship Recipients for Summer Part A Session

U.S. News & World Report-ranked and regionally accredited The University of Scranton, in partnership with University Alliance, a division of Bisk Education, has awarded two scholarships to exceptional educators who have had a positive impact on the lives of their students.

The University of Scranton congratulates the recipients of the Bisk Foundation Teacher Education Scholarship for the Special Summer 2012, Part A session:

Sister Mary Patrice Matamoros, OCD, an administrator at Hayden Child Care Center, has positively influenced both studentsandparents through listening, providing hope and offering encouragement. Her colleagues admire Sister Mary Patrice’s ability to take a personal interest in each and every child she teaches, focusing on academic progress, as well his or her holistic development.

Christine Flickinger, an English teacher at Downingtown STEM Academy in Downingtown, Penn., exclaims that teaching is her passion. She strives to impart her love of learning on every student, and takes advantage of opportunities to improve her instructional skills when they arise. Ms. Flickinger is an enthusiastic supporter of students’ extracurricular activities. She leads writing workshops, assists students with the school newspaper and literary magazine, and is known for her motivation and excellent ability to boost student achievement.

Jeffrey Welsh, Ph.D., Dean of the College of Graduate and Continuing Education at The University of Scranton. “By enrolling in our Master of Arts in Education programs online, they have taken the first step toward expanding their career opportunities, and their ability to inspire and lead others.”

The Bisk Foundation Teacher Education Scholarship supports outstanding educators who seek leadership skills and techniques for managing complex school environments by earning a Master of Science in Education: Educational Administration; and who strive to excel in today’s academic environment by earning a Master of Science in Education: Curriculum and Instruction. First-time applicants enrolling in either of the two programs, offered 100% online by The University of Scranton, are eligible to apply.

Scholarships reimburse 25% of current tuition and continue through graduation. The current value of each scholarship exceeds $4000; since 2010, this scholarship program has awarded over $84,000 to outstanding educators.
