The University of St. Thomas to Showcase Graduate-Level Program in Autism Spectrum Disorders at National Convention, Reports University Alliance

The University of St. Thomas, a U.S. News & World Report-ranked Best National University, will showcase its graduate-level Special Education program with a specialization in Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) at the Council for Exceptional Children’s 2014 Convention & Expo.

For more than 40 years, St. Thomas has been preparing professional educators to work with special education (SPED) students, including the growing population of youngsters with ASD. In addition to a 100% online Master of Arts in Special Education-ASD, the university offers teacher license and for-credit graduate certificate tracks in Autism Spectrum Disorders, also available online.

The annual CEC convention, which attracts thousands of special education teachers, professors and other educators, will be held April 9 to 12 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. Experts will share best practices and discuss the latest research in gifted and special education.

“The CEC Convention & Expo is a major event for special education professionals, families and advocates,” said Jo Montie, program director for St. Thomas’ SPED program. “The convention presents a terrific opportunity to reach out to teachers and help them enhance their knowledge and skills.”

An increasing number of U.S. states now require teachers to have a specific special education license in order to work with students with ASD. St. Thomas’ online programs are designed for busy educators, offering a flexible and convenient format. Powered by University Alliance, the professor-led online classrooms include streaming and downloadable video-based lectures, accessible 24/7 via mobile device or desktop computer, and interactive online learning tools and evidence-based teaching practices to use with students and disabilities.
