The University of Scranton Congratulates Brianna Perna as the Recipient for the Bisk Foundation Teacher Education Scholarship, University Alliance Reports

The University of Scranton, in collaboration with University Alliance, congratulates Brianna Perna as the winner of the Bisk Foundation Teacher Education Scholarship for the Special Summer 2014 Part A session.

Perna is a social studies teacher at DePaul Catholic High School in Wayne, N.J., and is known for her innovative use of technology to help generate excitement for learning among her students.

“Her instructional skills are outstanding and students have excelled in their work under her guidance,” DePaul Principal Anthony Sciaino wrote in his recommendation.

Perna knew as a child that education was her calling. As a teacher of economics, United States History and World History, she aims to leave a lasting impression on her students.

“All students have that one teacher who has made a difference in how they choose to lead their lives,” Perna wrote in her application essay. “My career aspiration, every day, is be that teacher to my students.”

Described by Sciaino as a “natural teacher,” Perna is preparing to move to the next level of academic leadership by pursuing a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction through The University of Scranton’s 100% online program powered by University Alliance.  The video-based e-learning platform features streaming and downloadable lectures, professor-led interactive discussion boards and online chat rooms.

“The University of Scranton is delighted to present the Bisk Foundation scholarship to Brianna Perna,” said W. Jeffrey Welsh, Ph.D., Dean of the College of Graduate and Continuing Education. “Her passion for teaching and her interest in incorporating technology in the classroom will be bolstered by her continued education.”

Each year, The University of Scranton, a regionally accredited and U.S. News & World Report-ranked university, awards sixteen scholarships to first-time students in its Master of Science in Education online programs. The scholarship provides winners with a quarter of the tuition cost for either the Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction or the Master of Science in Educational Administration.
