New Additions to Florida Tech’s Accounting and Finance Program Arrive Amidst Increasing Employment Opportunities

The ongoing economic crisis has had a major impact on businesses across the globe. While these events may have put the accounting and finance professions under intense scrutiny, they also resulted in the creation of new jobs. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics 2010-11Occupational Outlook Handbook projects that positions within the financial field will be expanding as fast as the national average through 2018, and accounting jobs will increase at an even faster rate of 22%. To help prepare students for success in these fields, U.S. News & World Report-ranked Florida Tech has added two new Mini MBA For-Credit Graduate Certificates to its program offerings. These unique graduate certificates join the following existing undergraduate and graduate degrees for a combined total of eight program options:

Students enrolled in the Associate of Arts in Accounting degree program will learn the fundamentals of the discipline, becoming acquainted with the theoretical framework and learning to identify and solve problems. The Bachelor of Arts in Accounting takes their knowledge further, delving into the details of tax laws, partnerships, mergers, acquisitions and consolidations. The remaining degree programs, including the new Mini MBAs, provide a strong foundation of core business principles in addition to the specialized courses; students will learn key concepts applicable to every industry before delving deeper into their accounting or finance focus.

“Whether students are just starting out in their career, exploring new possibilities or looking to get ahead in their current position, Florida Tech offers a world-class education that can help them achieve their career aspirations,” says Adrian Marullier, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for University Alliance. “With the economy in a state of change, now is a great time to pursue those goals, and we’re proud to provide educational options that can lead to career opportunities.”

One option that can really give students an edge is the completion of an MBA online degree in accounting or finance. According to a 2010 report by the Journal of Accountancy, many firms have turned their attention from client retention to finding top-notch talent; they recognize that a skilled, knowledgeable staff can help them avoid further financial trouble yet still maintain client satisfaction. The new Mini MBA online programs can also put students on the path to an MBA. Along with receiving a career-building credential in as little as eight months, they’ll take some of the same business, finance or accounting courses as graduate degree students, putting them 1/3 of the way to their own MBA.

All eight of the Florida Tech programs are delivered 100% online, powered by the nation’s largest facilitator of online learning – University Alliance. Through the convenience of video-based e-learning, students can access their finance or accounting education online, interacting with faculty and fellow classmates, engaging in streaming video lectures and contributing to discussion boards. They can download MP3 and MP4 lectures to watch and listen on the go, connecting from home, work or mobile device. It’s a convenient way to attain higher levels of education while still leaving time for family and work responsibilities.

Admission for each program is on a continual basis. For more details, and to discover how Florida Tech can help you achieve your professional and personal goals, visit www.floridatechonline.com.
