Jacksonville University’s Programs Address Nursing Shortage in Sunshine State

The aging baby boomer population and the move toward national healthcare reform are spurring a quickly growing nationwide shortage of registered nurses, leading to a projected shortfall of a million nurses in the next decade, according to the Health Resources and Services Administration.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, RNs will experience the largest projected employment growth among licensed nurses, with 526,800 new positions expected between 2012 and 2022. As the demand for RNs increases, the demand for RNs with BSNs and MSNs will also increase.

To curb the nursing shortfall in Florida, where the Florida Center for Nursing predicts 4,000 new RN positions will open in 2014, Jacksonville University offers online RN to BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) as well as MSN (Master of Science in Nursing) programs.

The U.S. News & World Report-ranked university has a rich 80-year history with an outstanding faculty and a decade of excellence in nursing education online.

“A considerable amount of thought and diligence has been devoted to developing our video-based, professor-led online programs to create a student-centered approach,” Dean Judith Erickson, PhD, said.

Jacksonville University’s online programs are powered by University Alliance, a division of Bisk Education, and allow nursing professionals to study at their own pace under the direction of highly qualified faculty while balancing work and family.

Jacksonville University’s online programs allow students to:

Students will receive 30 credits for their active RN license and may transfer up to 60 credits from regionally accredited universities for the RN to BSN program.

Jacksonville University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The BSN degree is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(CCNE).
