U.S. News and World Report-ranked Jacksonville University, in partnership with University Alliance, is pleased to congratulate Karen Bettison as the recipient of the Jacksonville University Online RN to BSN Honor Scholarship for the Fall II, 2012 session.
Bettison, of Bellflower, Missouri, is a registered nurse (RN) in the emergency department of the Lincoln County (Missouri) Medical Center. The scholarship will provide Bettison with 25% off tuition for all Jacksonville University online RN to BSN nursing classes through her graduation.
“I first decided to become a nurse when I was 17 years old, and I had a vision for my life which involved working in a developing country in a mission hospital where the needs were great and the nurses were few, and where I felt like I could make a big difference,” Bettison wrote in an essay supporting her scholarship application.
Bettison was a nurse and translator for a nonprofit mission group for almost two decades before returning to the United States to continue her nursing career. “I realized that getting a BSN might be necessary for me to even keep my job in the future,” she wrote.
Jacksonville University (JU) will award six scholarships annually to first-time students in the RN to BSN online program. Applicants must have a minimum 3.4 GPA upon applying to JU and maintain a 3.4 GPA or higher through graduation.
