Empowering a New Generation of African Leaders

How do you help solve today’s most pressing challenges a continent away? It starts with bringing together the brightest minds in the most critical fields, from business to medicine, agriculture to information technology.

In the summer of 2015, Africa’s most promising young leaders began the journey of a lifetime. They traveled from their cities and villages in Africa to the University of Notre Dame campus and on to Washington, D.C., as part of the Mandela Washington Fellowship of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI).

We’re proud to have captured their story in a powerful documentary that showcases their pursuit of meaningful change for their communities, countries and continent. Working with the Notre Dame Initiative for Global Development, Bisk first became involved with the initiative by providing the fellows, ages 25 to 35, with pre-arrival access to relevant Notre Dame online coursework, preparing them for the educational journey ahead. Soon, the education-for-the-greater-good mission alignment between Bisk, Notre Dame and YALI made it clear that there was a larger story to tell.

"It's exciting to show the incredible journey these young fellows share as they gain valuable skills that will drive change and create prosperity in their local communities throughout Africa,” said Michael D. Bisk, President of Bisk Education.

Through academic coursework, leadership training and networking, the aspiring entrepreneurs are equipped to promote growth and prosperity, strengthen democracy and enhance peace across Africa.
