Dominican University Announces Scholarship Recipients for Master of Arts in Education Degrees Offered 100% Online

Dominican University, together with University Alliance and Bisk Education, is pleased to support exceptional educators who wish to pursue a Master of Arts in Education degree through the Bisk Foundation Teacher Education Scholarship program. Dominican University, a U.S. News & World Report-ranked and regionally accredited university, would like to congratulate Wendy Christie and Stephen Zannis, the scholarship recipients for the Summer I, 2012 session.

Wendy Christie, who is enrolled in Dominican’s MAEd Reading program, recognizes the difference it can make in a student’s life when a teacher focuses on their individual interests. Christie is passionately dedicated to helping her students succeed. “I believe that making a difference in the life of a child means continuously striving to be a better educator,” says Christie, who resides in Alberta, Canada.

Stephen Zannis, after serving as a volunteer English teacher in Thailand and in a U.S. refugee relocation program, became dedicated to earning a teaching degree to help others learn the English language. He currently teaches English as a Second Language (ESL) in Berkeley, California and is enrolled in Dominican’s MAEd ESL program. Zannis credits his volunteer experiences with changing his life, making it “…a driving force in my life to make a positive difference in the lives of others.”

“Dominican University is proud to honor such outstanding educators,” says Colleen Reardon, EdD, Dean of the School of Education for Dominican University. “We congratulate Ms. Christie and Mr. Zannis on the receipt of this scholarship which supports teachers who seek to make a difference in the lives of their students.”

These scholarships help Dominican’s students with the cost of tuition, awarding 33% of current tuition, allowing them to gain essential skills from the courses which they can use immediately to help further their careers and encourage students to reach their full potential.

Offered 100% online and powered by University Alliance technology, students of Dominican’s online programs have 24/7 access to professor-led courses that include streaming video lectures, online discussion boards, live chat rooms and email, as well as MP3 and MP4 lectures available for download to most mobile devices. The video-based e-learning model means that campus visits aren’t required, making it convenient and flexible for teachers considering a master’s degree in education.

To be eligible for the Bisk Foundation Teacher Education Scholarship, teachers must be first-time applicants to any of Dominican University’s three Master of Arts in Education degree programs and must show they’ve had a positive impact on their students’ lives. They must also have a bachelor’s, master’s, specialist, or doctorate degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA from a regionally accredited institution. With the availability of scholarships for new students, this is an excellent time for educators to pursue a Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in Elementary Education, Reading, or ESL.
