Dominican University Awards Teacher Education Scholarships to MAEd Students

U.S. News & World Report-ranked Dominican University congratulates its two winners of the Bisk Foundation Teacher Education Scholarship for the Fall 1, 2011 session – AnneMarie Ehler and Megan Johnson. The scholarship will help these two gifted educators earn a master’s degree through the convenience of Dominican’s 100% online classroom.

The scholarship program was launched in August 2010 and has awarded 18 students a total of over $94,000. The scholarship was started as part of Bisk Education’s commitment to developing outstanding educators and helping them excel in today’s classroom by earning a MAEd in Reading, MAEd in Elementary Education, or MAEd in English as a Second Language.

AnneMarie Ehler, Lambertville, New Jersey is enrolled in MAEd in Reading. In Ehler’s essay describing the positive impact she has had on the lives of others, she writes, “I encouraged effort, attendance, good work habits, and tried to develop a love of learning to carry these children from my first grade classroom straight through to college.”

Megan Johnson, Hickory Hills, Illinois, is enrolled in MAEd in Reading as well. Johnson describes her impact on students through the after-school art program she created. “I was able to not only work with students one on one without being rushed, but I was able to form strong foundations and relationships with my students.”

“Today we congratulate Ms. Ehler and Ms. Johnson for their dedication and hard work,” said Sister Colleen McNicholas, Dean Emerita of the School of Education for Dominican University. “It is with great pride from Dominican University that we honor such outstanding educators and help foster their continued success.”
