St. Petersburg, Florida’s Dali Museum Hosts 200 Bay Area Hospitality Executives

St. Petersburg, Florida’s Dali Museum hosted over 200 hospitality executives, concierge, hotel front desk staff, and tourism information officers on Wednesday, November 7 and encouraged them to tour the museum in order to gain first-hand knowledge of the internationally acclaimed destination on Florida’s west coast.

Richard Farrar, consultant, Alumni Board of Directors Chairman Emeritus and director of the Real Estate Development Institute at The School of Hospitality Business, Michigan State University (MSU), was invited to guest lecture at the hospitality event. Drawing on more than 37 years of experience working in various roles for the Marriott International, Inc., Farrar addressed the key responsibilities of professionals working in this industry.

Connecting with his attentive audience from the steps of the Dalí Museum helical staircase, Farrar discussed the responsibility to oneself as a professional. He stressed the importance of advancing knowledge and empowering yourself through professional development programs like the new 100% online Management Certificate in the Business of Hospitality.

“As the eyes and ears of their organizations, concierge and front desk staff need to find ways to sharpen their blades and keep themselves current,” says Farrar. “It is extremely important to be well-versed on everything going on around their city or town, but it is just as important to continue learning and developing as a professional to understand what is going on in the hotel as well as the industry.”
