Over 100 employees from Bisk Education participated in the 8th annual Miles for Moffitt 5k event at the University of South Florida on Saturday, May 11. Miles for Moffitt raises money to support cancer research at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. 100% of all donations and registration fees for the 5k benefit Moffitt cancer research. The strong showing of Bisk employees resulted in donations totaling more than $4,060.
“We chose to participate in this race because it combines both fitness and community involvement, falling in line with our corporate wellness program,” said Wendy Vera, Benefits Coordinator, who helped to organize Bisk employees’ participation. “This was our first 5K as a company, and we had one of the largest teams at the event. I was proud to run alongside my coworkers in support of cancer research.”
Employee Kim Simon shared that this was her first-ever 5k. “I decided to participate in Miles for Moffitt because I recently lost my brother-in-law to brain cancer. If he could battle cancer for over 2 years, then I can certainly handle a 5k.”
Simon’s coworkers, Andrea Daly and Rebecca Boudreaux, also paid tribute to family members who are, or have, courageously fought cancer. “I have witnessed the pain and struggle of cancer first-hand,” said Daly. “This race is a great opportunity to support the outstanding work being done every day at Moffitt, while honoring my friend by running with his name proudly displayed on my race tag.”
Miles for Moffitt reports that the Tampa Bay community has raised one million dollars in the event’s seven years. Over 6,000 people participated at Saturday’s race, which raised $310,000 for cancer research.
