Dominican University Alumna Honored as Teacher of the Year

Dominican University, a U.S. News & World Report-ranked university, is proud to congratulate alumna Julia King on her contributions to education as the 2013 Teacher of the Year in Washington, D.C.

King, who received the award in recognition of her work as a seventh-grade math teacher, earned her master’s degree in teaching from the regionally accredited Dominican. She previously spent two years teaching in Indiana through the Teach for America program.

“She exemplifies what outstanding teaching and professional leadership look like both within and beyond the classroom,” Washington Mayor Vincent Gray said in a statement.

King and other State Teachers of the Year were honored by President Barack Obama and U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan at a ceremony in the White House Rose Garden.

King graduated from Dominican University in 2010.
